Work it Out!

 

 Employee Spotlight!! Our Spotlight Employees for the month of May are in honor of National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. They are sharing how they stay fit and active!

Meet Brandy...an Industrial Director in our Texas Region.



This lady rocks!



 1. What sport/activity do you currently participate in? Since when? How often?
I participate in fitness training, 10 years, 2xs a week now

 2.      How and why did you get started in this sport/activity?
A love for the human anatomy, health, fitness and happy lifestyle

 3.      Do you follow a special diet? 
Diet is moderation, protein, fruit, dairy, veggies, carbs

4.  What one or two things do you currently do in your training that are keys to your success? 
Currently in endurance training and plyometrics (i change it up though)

 5.      What is your biggest challenge, and what do you do to manage this challenge?
Biggest challenge is TIME! as a single mom with sole custody of an active son who is in competitive sports, AAU Basketball and a competitive swimmer, with a full time career that requires a lot of time and attention, I try to stay focused and balanced on the "musts" in life. When its time to work, you work, when its time to work-out, you work-out! Keep it simple, like Nike says, Just Do It.

 6.      Do you have a saying or motto that you live your life by?
"Keep it simple, Just do it!"

7.      What was the best advice you were ever given related to your sport/activity? 
You get back what you put in. What you focus on expands. The end result is the one you created!

8.      How many times in the last year have you been to see a physician, and why?
Been to Physician once this year, for my annual check-up.

9.      Anything else you’d like to share?
...Nova rocks! :) lol!

Let's Get Physical!

Employee Spotlight! We are continuing to recognize our wonderful employees who stay active and fit in honor of National Physical Fitness and Sports Month.

Meet Peter...Market Director of Physical Therapy for our Southwest TX Region.


The Running Man


So, Peter....


1. What sport/activity do you currently participate in? Since when? How often?
       Running, Lift weights. Run 24 miles/week and lift weights 3x per week.


2.      How and why did you get started in this sport/activity?
       I started 2 years ago to lose weight and feel better.


3.      Do you follow a special diet?  
      I did South Beach Diet for a while and now I eat a protein-rich, low carb diet.
                                                                                        
4.  What one or two things do you currently do in your training that are keys to your success? 
      Key thing is not to start skipping workouts. I do a variety of weight lifting activities to avoid boredom. 

5.      What is your biggest challenge, and what do you do to manage this challenge?
     My biggest challenge is to find time. Especially when I travel to other clinics. I get up at 4:30 AM to make sure I get workouts done before work.

6.      Do you have a saying or motto that you live your life by?
     Work Hard. Play Hard.


7.      What was the best advice you were ever given related to your sport/activity? 
      Avoid Injury. Work out in moderation and respect your limitations.

8.      How many times in the last year have you been to see a physician, and why?
     None.

9.      Anything else you’d like to share?
      Physical Fitness is one of the few things in life you can control. For many years I spent too much time working and did not make time for myself, or my health. It's important to balance your life and make physical activity part of every day.

Prepare for a Natural Disaster



Are you prepared for a Natural Disaster?

Having a plan of action can help protect your business and save employees’ lives.




Natural Disasters that may occur:
 Hurricanes or Extreme Storms
Earthquakes
Tornadoes
Wildfires
Blizzards or Ice Storms



Steps to prepare your company for a Natural Disaster:

1.     Check your insurance policy to see what natural disasters are covered. Speak with your agent to better determine what natural disasters may occur in your region.
2.      Assign an employee as a safety supervisor. This person should be responsible for all emergency planning, including posting emergency material and training employees for evacuations and coordinating fire drills.
3.     Set up an emergency response phone number or message for your employees to call or receive. Have a number for your employees to call and report to during inclement weather or during an unexpected disaster.  Have an emergency message sent to all employees with a smartphone; this will advise them of work conditions and who to report to during the event of a disaster.
4.     Create a contingency plan. Having another location to work from in the event of a natural disaster will allow you to continue your business offsite. This is also a good way to stay in touch with your employees.
5.     Back up business files to an offsite server. This allows you to secure and store all your sensitive data, stay up to date, and be prepared and protected in the event of a natural disaster.
6.     Stay prepared, no one knows for sure what Mother Nature has in store for us. Staying prepared for any and all conditions of a major disaster will keep you, your company and your employees safe and organized.

Employee Spotlight! - National Physical Fitness and Sports Month

The Month of May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, and it's a great time to spread the word about the benefits of getting active.

 

Today, we sat down with Ashley, Market Research Coordinator at Nova, to discuss how she stays fit and healthy.

Nova Med:    What sport/activity do you currently participate in? Since when? How often?

I currently participate in “Total Body Conditioning” at 24 Hour Fitness. I’ve been following the same instructor for four years now. Prior to this class, I was an avid runner since I was a teenager and put on lots of mileage. As a result, my knees began to bother me as the cartilage thinned out. I had to make some changes to my work-out regimen and it was tough. I cut back on the running and participated in other activities: Zumba, Spin class, Body Pump and Total Body Conditioning.  I’ve always excelled at cardiovascular activities: running, elliptical machine, spin class, etc. These days the flavor of the year for me is Total Body Conditioning. That could change at any time. It’s actually nice to participate in various activities and work different muscle groups. I still throw in a good run at Memorial Park from time to time. Above all, I absolutely love to attend class and see my teammates and instructors during the week. We keep each other motivated and get through a challenging class together. It’s an awesome feeling to be a part of the team.

Nova Med:   Do you follow a special diet?

No special diet. For the most part, I eat pretty healthy. I was raised eating a home cooked meal and no fast food. My mom is the best cook I know and has shown me a few of her tricks. I enjoy cooking as well. I’m a creature o f habit and things really haven’t changed. I don’t deprive myself of junk food as well. It’s nice to enjoy it from time to time and I don’t fret about it. It’s all about moderation.

Nova Med:     What is your biggest challenge, and what do you do to manage this challenge?

Biggest challenge- motivation. The hardest part of anything in my point of view is getting started. Once I begin something, I’m unstoppable. I manage this challenge by remaining positive and mentally strong. It takes discipline and I somehow muster up the strength to execute regardless of my mood.

Nova Med:      Do you have a saying or motto that you live your life by?

Live, Laugh and Love

Nova Med:      How many times in the last year have you been to see a physician, and why?


I saw a physician many times this past year only because I was “with child.” Otherwise, I would not have seen a physician. I’m very fortunate to be healthy and I’m extremely thankful for that. I don’t take it for granted.
