Are you prepared for a
Natural Disaster?
Having a plan of action
can help protect your business and save employees’ lives.
Natural Disasters that may occur:
Hurricanes
or Extreme Storms
Earthquakes
Tornadoes
Wildfires
Blizzards or Ice Storms
Steps to prepare your company for a Natural Disaster:
1. Check your insurance
policy to see what natural disasters are covered. Speak with your agent to
better determine what natural disasters may occur in your region.
2. Assign an employee
as a safety supervisor. This person should be responsible for all emergency
planning, including posting emergency material and training employees for
evacuations and coordinating fire drills.
3. Set up an emergency
response phone number or message for your employees to call or receive. Have a number for your
employees to call and report to during inclement weather or during an
unexpected disaster. Have an emergency message sent to all employees with
a smartphone; this will advise them of work conditions and who to report to
during the event of a disaster.
4. Create a contingency
plan. Having
another location to work from in the event of a natural disaster will allow you
to continue your business offsite. This is also a good way to stay in touch
with your employees.
5. Back up business files
to an offsite server. This allows you to secure and store all your sensitive
data, stay up to date, and be prepared and protected in the event of a natural
disaster.
6. Stay prepared, no one
knows for sure what Mother Nature has in store for us. Staying prepared for any
and all conditions of a major disaster will keep you, your company and your
employees safe and organized.
